Your Lifestyle Legacy & The Butterfly Effect
When you think of your legacy, what comes to mind? Most people would think of their children, an inheritance, or their life’s work. But, do you ever think about how your personal lifestyle choices are also a legacy capable of having great impact on generations to follow? I call this the Lifestyle Legacy, and I believe we all need to put more thought into this concept – now more than ever!
Ever heard of the butterfly effect? The term "butterfly effect" is attributed to Edward Norton Lorenz, a mathematician and meteorologist, who was one of the first proponents of Chaos Theory. Though he had been working on the theory for some ten years, with the principal question as to whether a seagulls’ wing movements changes the weather, he changed to the more poetic butterfly in 1973. A speech he delivered was titled, “Does the Flap of a Butterfly’s Wings in Brazil Set off a Tornado in Texas.”
In short, can small actions taken in the past or present by an individual dramatically affect the future of mankind? Let’s narrow this down to the topic of how personal health choices will affect generations to follow. Is it safe to assume that most children derive the majority of their health habits from their parents? Of course! This is how the butterfly effect and the Lifestyle Legacy intertwine.
Now, given the fact that our nation’s state of health nowadays is on the decline, i.e. increasing rates of cancer, diabetes, obesity, and depression… is now the time to seriously consider what kind of legacy we are leaving behind? You bet! Would it be wise to consider changing our lifestyle, in hopes that by way of the butterfly effect, our actions leave the world a better place, that our Lifestyle Legacy is a positive one?
Whether you have kids or not, our Lifestyle Legacy is a reality and will certainly affect generations to follow on one level or another. The question is, will your mark be small or large, will it be positive or negative, will it offer its recipient a chance at a better life? A daunting question, but a valid one!
For example, knowing my Lifestyle Legacy will affect future generations I remain committed to the following:
- Being responsible for the gift of life, my mind and body, and expressing my full God-given potential.
- Maintaining the above to better serve others and my life’s purpose.
- Teaching people about the Chiropractic Lifestyle (eating, moving, thinking healthy and wise)
- Being an example of what we are capable of, and encouraging people to be an example unto others.
The time is now for people to wake up to the fact that their lifestyle choices will affect not only them, but countless others. I say to all of mankind, we all can change and improve… do it for you, do it for your children, do it for the rest of humanity, or better yet, do it because it is what God wants you to do.
This office was created from a vision, a vision that a few dedicated individuals with a great purpose in their heart can make a BIG difference on the fate of mankind.
