Can Asthma Really Be Caused By Allergies?
Can Asthma Really Be Caused By Allergies?
Yes in fact allergic (extrinsic) asthma is the most common form of asthma, affecting over 50% of the 20 million asthma sufferers. Over 2.5 million children under age 18 suffer from allergic asthma. Allergic asthma is characterized by symptoms that are triggered by an allergic reaction. Allergic asthma is airway obstruction and inflammation that is partially reversible with medication. Many of the symptoms of allergic and non-allergic asthma are the same (coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath or rapid breathing, and chest tightness). However, allergic asthma is triggered by inhaled allergens such as dust mite allergen, pet dander, pollen, mold, etc. resulting in asthma symptoms
The National Institutes of Health estimates that 60% of the people in the United States with asthma have allergic asthma.
What triggers allergic asthma?
You are probably aware of many things that can trigger asthma. Mold, dust mites, cockroaches, and pet dander are common examples of year-round allergens. What you may not know is how something as simple as visiting a friend who has a pet can lead to an asthma attack. The reason, in part, is a substance produced by the body called IgE.
Ig What?
IgE is short for Immunoglobulin E. This substance, which occurs naturally in your body in small amounts, plays an important role in allergic asthma. If you have allergic asthma, your body makes more IgE when you breathe in an allergen. This can cause a series of chemical reactions known as the allergic-inflammatory process in allergic asthma. It can result in 2 things: (1) the muscles that surround the airways in your lungs begin to tighten (this is known as constriction of the airways); and, (2) your airways become irritated and begin to swell (this is known as inflammation of the airways).
Dr. Judd’s Comments:
Asthma is one of the most prevalent and most expensive conditions in the U.S. We are talking about huge numbers of asthma sufferers…10 million people: roughly the population of Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Nebraska, COMBINED! I have a friend that spends almost $300 per month on inhalers and asthma medication, and that is just in co-pays! There is a better way. Using the BAX 3000 laser allergy elimination system, we can eliminate most of the symptoms that cause so much suffering. Come learn more on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 as we present real solutions to eliminate asthma symptoms. This may be the most valuable 90 minutes you spend this year!
